COMPONENT 4: CRITICAL PERSPECTIVES
This part of the course is a two-hour exam. You will answer two questions, each question is marked out of 50. The exam is worth 25% of your final AS grade.

SECTION 4.2:  Contemporary media issues

The exam assesses your ability to:

  • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of media concepts, contexts and critical debates, using terminology appropriately
  • makes up 15% of final A2 mark
  • apply knowledge and understanding to show how meanings are created when analysing media products
  • makes up 10% of final A2 mark

For each area, focus on:-
- historical:  show understanding of and ability to compare relevant aspects of the contemporary media with the past
- contemporary: the major focus is here, on up-to-date, accurate, theoretical and academic analyses of today's media
- future:  show thinking about some ideas about where the media might be going next
